Gaffer previews Retford

Its been a very good week and we are undefeated in two now. It was a great feeling getting our first win since I took over, on the road against Albion Sports. As a team we started well, attacked and showed what a dangerous side we can be. It was two teams having a right good go.

The only disappointment was that we weren’t more ruthless and we could have put the game to bed sooner. We moved the ball quicker to try and kill them off, because you are never safe at 2-1, but thankfully we got four top quality goals and gained a fantastic result.

I have to mention how well every player played. They dug deep for 10-20 minutes in the second half and we were up against it because Albion are a very strong attacking team. Their shape caused us a few problems but we could rely on a spectacular individual performance from “Donk”. I thought the second penalty decision was a little harsh, we were unlucky with that but again “Donk” came up trumps and pulled a great save off at 3-3.

Onto Retford, we face a difficult game as they are fighting for survival. Sometimes a bounce of a ball, a bit of bad luck or injuries to key players can change wins into draws or draws into defeats and maybe that’s what has happened to Retford this season. Regardless of their issues and their league position we have to look at them as a team and the threats they have. I think it will be one of the toughest games the team will face this season, we have to approach it in the right way.
