Well we finally say goodbye to the 2017/2018 season, which has been a very long one ! We didn’t get that elusive win but it certainly wasn’t for the want of trying !!
We knew trying to retain our Step 5 status with very limited financial budgets was always going to be a tough task in a league that has some substantial funds available to lots of very ambitious teams. Probably tougher than we all expected if I’m honest. But no one can say we didn’t give it a go and I would like to thank all of the management and every player who have supported us this year. It’s been really tough but everyone has given it their all. A big thank you to everyone including Cottee, Jamie and Alan and their management teams who have given everything to the club this year. Thank you and we wish you all the best.
As a club we have learnt a lot this season and go into next year stronger off the field than we have ever been, and also much wiser for our experiences. Running a club at this level is tough, much tougher than anyone can imagine, but we have a strong committed committee who give their all for the club and it’s to them I am so thankful. Without them we simply wouldn’t have a club. We approach the new season with renewed optimism having today captured Micky Taylor and his new management team of Danny Tighe and Matt Millns to the club. This experience will be invaluable to us as we approach a new challenging season in Step 6.
This has also been our first year where we set up an U21 team. There has been lots of learning for us and it has been great to see some local talent grow and develop. Thanks to Steve Smith for his continued leadership of that group. It’s been a massive commitment for the club this year as we have totally subsidised the costs for the team which alongside the running of the club has been challenging. We do recognise the importance of giving local youngsters a chance and also the ability to step up to our senior side so it’s a commitment worth making.
Also a massive thank you to all our sponsors and partners who have helped us this year
Rileys (our first team kit sponsor), WVH (Ground sponsor) and MFP, Total Hire and Sales, Acorn Signs, Park Lane Self Drive and Chesterfield College as our Premium sponsors this year. And a big thank you to all of the local companies that support us with the perimeter boards and matchday advertising. Put it simply, without you there would be no club and certainly not the great facilities at the ground that we have for the community.
Thank you also to Mansfield Town FC for their continued partnership where we host their youth team games and also their magnificent gesture last November when we had the first team friendly at the ground as well as the support for youth players this year in our senior side. It’s an invaluable partnership for us. Thank you to MTFC for supporting the community
Thank you to also to everyone who supported the mindless act of vandalism we had. The community came out in force as did football with non league teams far and wide supporting us as well as MTFC. Thank you ! It shows what a special game non league football is.
I am also personally excited at the ground now being called the “Lido ground” again. Thanks to a club partner that has come forward that we can make this happen.
Whilst the season draws to an end on the field, it immediately starts again off it ! The floodlights are being repaired, the main ground levelled and seeded and also the new colts and training pitch seeded. This alongside the ground maintenance ahead of our normal annual ground inspection and improvement work in the café. Plus we are planning pre season friendlies and fundraising events with the new management teams. So it never stops ! again my big thanks to the very hard working committee that never stop throughout the year to keep this great club going and prospering.
Whilst it’s been tough, we have tried to do things in the right way and also with a smile on our faces. Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year. It has meant so much to us and we go into next season with renewed optimism and also a lot of friends.
See you very soon at the pre season friendlies !
All the best
