Cobras fall to defeat after injury time winner

The Cobras start well and Josh Pickering has three opportunities to open the scoring in the first 20 minutes but is unable to hit the target.

The Cobras’ keep it tight at the back and deny Gedling any clear cut chances until the 38th minute when the ball is played into the path of Gedling’s Courtney Hastings on the edge of the area and the in-form striker beats Sam Ogden with a curling shot into the corner.

HT 1-0

The Cobras should have equalised as early as the 46th minute when substitute Josh Devereux teed up Curtis Birchall on the edge of the area but the midfielder put his shot over the bar.

Before the hour mark was reached Gedling hit the woodwork twice through Kieran Harrison and Cameron Thurgood whilst Josh Pickering spurned a half chance for the visitors when he beat the offside trap but put the ball wide of the upright.

The Cobras finally gained more impetus with the introduction of Sheldon McDonald for Roberto Marchetta with 15 minutes left and the big striker slot home the equaliser four minutes later after fine link up play by Jason Foster and Josh Pickering. 1-1

Things got even better for the Cobras on the 81st minute when a long ball down the right enabled Josh Pickering to take advantage of static defending and then chip the ball over the onrushing Lance Walker as referee Max Atherton waived away offside protests from the home side. 1-2

The young Cobras team kept the lead until the 88th minute when, after the visitors failed to clear the ball, substitute Curtis Millward put in a deep cross from the right hand side to find Aaron Large at the far post who controlled well and fired home into the far corner. 2-2

Clipstone’s Liam Carrington then fired over from close range in the final minute after a Foster free kick was headed back across goal to him by Mcdonald. The home side’s winning goal then came in the 91st minute when Large found Hastings who scored his 15th of the season from inside the area despite Ogden getting a hand to his shot.

The Cobras remain in 17th position with six points from nine games.
