Clipstone never got going against a very good Hucknall side who led 5-0 at half time and deservedly ran our 7-1 winners.
The visitors took the lead after only 2 minutes with an excellent finish from Samuel Sims whilst Joe Ashurst scored a hat-trick. Former Cobra Matt Brian also appeared on the scoresheet. Josh Ing grabbed a late consolation goal for the home side who also gave a debut to central defender Connor Emery who joins on work experience from Chesterfield FC.
Comments from Assistant Manager, Dale Spragg “After coming off a great team performance last week at Shirebrook we were in a buoyant mood going into the game against Hucknall. Unfortunately we got off to the worst possible start conceding a ‘worldy’ finish after 2 mins!
This seemed to rattle us and we looked really nervy. Credit to Hucknall they were on the front foot and took full advantage, adding another two within 10mins.
We managed to create a couple of chances which would have (against the run of play) given us a foothold back in the game, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert them. We lacked composure on the ball, frequently giving away cheap possession.
Again Hucknall capitalised scoring another two unanswered goals before half time. We regrouped at half time and tried to be more competitive. Credit to the young lads, they kept going until the end.
We created 4-5 chances of our own, but again could not convert them. Hucknall scored another two (sloppy) goals in the second half, with Josh Ing scoring a great individual consolation.
Overall a bad day at the office with the majority of our players not reaching the standards that they have shown over recent weeks. Lots of work to put it right on the training ground this week!”
