Clipstone fought back to earn a point at the Lido Ground as Jack Warwick’s second-half strike earned the Cobras a share of the spoils.
Highly-rated striker Jamie Sleigh swept the hosts into an early lead. After an initial excellent shot from Debrouwer is well-saved by Sam Ogden the rebound falls at the feet of Sleigh to slot home from close range.
Though the game saw Clipstone hosting second in the league and favourites for promotion, it was difficult to tell which was which before the break and the boys should be proud of their performance.
The visitors were the better team in the second half but failed to break down Clipstone’s resilient defence
Heanor went close, with Kyle Daley in particular spurning two chances. Those chances were then punished after a clever pass from Jack Siddall found his namesake Jack Warwick who held off his marker and places his left foot shot wide of Pierrepoint and into the bottom corner of the goal.
“To do that against this kind of opponent at home, I really value,” Cobras boss Hoole said. “The way we have done it, with the spirit they have done it, that’s great and there’s plenty of positives to take from today.”
“We are going in the right direction and we have only lost 1 in 6 now but I think today was an impressive result which will certainly raise eyebrows while others in the title run in will be grateful.”
