Good afternoon everybody and thank you for coming to support us. Today our first team welcome Belper United for our East Midland Counties home fixture. I would like to wish all Officials, players and supporters a warm welcome to the Lido Ground.
I always struggle to prepare programme notes when we have two home games in succession and when the fixtures first come out at the beginning of the season it’s the first thing I look out for and normally whinge to Mark about 5 minutes later.
This time though it’s been made a bit easier with a brilliant win against Gedling last week. Where to start? Jack Warwick was in fine form getting his first hat-trick for the club and with those goals he’s now the clubs current top goal scorer. What I loved though, after the game I congratulate him about his hat-trick and rave about his brilliant second goal, he responds and tells me he preferred his hat-trick goal as it was a team goal. Love that attitude.
Secondly, how good did the new signings fit in? Matt Leyland didn’t put a foot wrong defensively and looks a real solid find. Dec Sorrell & Chadd Wootton really impressed too, both grabbing assists and looked as if they have been part of the team from the start of the season. Declan Whitton didn’t make his debut on Saturday but will be pushing the boys in front of him.
That’s what I really like about the squad at the minute, there’s so much competition for places and I’m glad it’s not me picking the starting eleven.
I have a brilliant stat that I’m fortunate Jack Gibb’s dad told me about last week. Unbeknown to me, we now have the same amount of points this season as we did the whole of last year with another 11 to play (more points now after the Belper victory). The pessimist in me wants to think 95% of our points came before October last season with only 2 or 3 draws afterwards which was an awful run. But I’m going to come off the fence I’m sitting on. Under this management team and the squad we have I do believe we will finish strongly.
Up The Cobras!
