24 April 2021
South Normanton Athletic (0) 1
Clipstone (0) 1
This entertaining game of football between Clipstone and South Normanton ended in a draw after a late equaliser by the Shiner’s Elliott Bland from close range.
The game was preceded by a minute’s applause in memory of Cobra’s player Marcus Beddoe who sadly passed away on 20 April. Wreaths in the colours of both clubs were laid in the centre circle before the game along with the number 15 shirt that Marcus wore on numerous occasions.
Chances were limited in the first half. Charlie Hardwick had the best chance for the visitors but just failed to get a touch at the far post from a cross from the left. At the other end Cobras keeper Sam Ogden produced a great double save to deny the hosts as half time approached.
Cobras boss Dave Hoole made a number of half time changes on a warm afternoon and Ogden was the busier of the two ‘keepers in the opening 20 minutes.
The Cobras eventually started to show more in the final third and took the lead in the 68th minute when Alex Mann beat two defenders before unselfishly squaring the ball to Aaron Ferenc who fired home from eight yards.
Just when it looked like the Cobras would hold on for victory, they were undone when a cross from the left wasn’t properly cleared and Elliott Bland stabbed the ball past Ogden from 5 yards.
As Marcus had been dual registered with both clubs in the curtailed 2020/21 season, a draw was a fitting result and all at Clipstone FC are grateful to South Normanton for their support and friendship during the last week.
