Clipstone FC vs Clay Cross Town FC Match Preview & Summary

Clipstone were beaten 1-2 by Clay Cross Town on a hot afternoon at the Lido Ground.

Prior to the game there was a minute’s applause in memory of Evie Wilson who tragically lost her life earlier in the week.

Early defensive lapses by the home side led to the visitors racing into a 2-0 lead after 14 minutes with goals from Lewis Macaskill and Josh Parfitt. Indeed things could have been worse when ‘keeper Sam Ogden fouled Parfitt as he raced through on goal and conceded a penalty after 18 minutes, however the Cobras’ stopper then pushed Josh Scully’s spot kick onto the post.

The home side offered little attacking threat in the first period and there only chance came after 23 minutes when Josh Pickering cut in from the right hand side but his shot was straight at the ‘keeper.

The Cobras made a number of changes at half time and nearly pulled a goal back when substitute Ethan Blackbourn fired wide with the goal at his mercy after Clay Cross failed to clear a corner.

Clipstone did manage to get a goal back after 59 minutes when Pickering was adjudged to have been fouled in the area by referee Lee Clark and Jason Foster scored from the spot.

Both sides had further chances to score with Connor Wright going closest for the Cobras, however there can be few complaints about the result against a hardworking and organised Clay Cross side.

Next up for the Cobras is a friendly against local rivals AFC Mansfield at the Lido Ground on Saturday 24 July, 3pm.
