Clipstone FC vs Matlock Town Tue 27th July 7:30pm KO

Clipstone put up a valiant challenge during the inaugural Marcus Beddoe Memorial Trophy game against a strong Matlock Town side losing by four goals to one. The Cobras gave a dogged performance and the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.

Matlock started the game slightly better and took the lead after 9 minutes through Ross Hannah, however the Cobras clawed their way back into the game and equalised after 36 minutes through Jack Warwick and then nearly took the lead when the same player was inches away from getting a touch to an excellent Connor Wright cross.

The Gladiators retook the lead on 55 minutes and further goals from John Pritchard (61) and Craig Carney (77) sealed the victory for the visitors.

The game was played in a very good spirit and both sides played some very good one touch football, making the game a fitting tribute to Marcus. At the game’s conclusion, Marcus’s father Steve presented the Marcus Beddoe Memorial Trophy to Matlock captain Alex Byrne.

RIP Marcus. Everyone at Clipstone FC misses you.

Clipstone FC have Matlock Town this Tuesday with a 7:30pm KO – Both sides are looking forward to the game in tribute of late Cobras player, Marcus Beddoe – with both sides playing for the Marcus Beddoe Memorial Trophy. Marcus who played for both Matlock and lately Clipstone was a great person to have around the club both on and off the field. Clipstone are looking to continue their impressive performances after a game of small margins against AFC Mansfield on Saturday.

Matlock have had a very impressive run in pre-season so far – beating the likes of Mansfield Town and Boston United but lost 3-1 to Chesterfield FC last Wednesday – However Matlock will be in high morale heading to the Lido Ground in mid week.

On the other hand, Clipstone have put in a much better performance against local rivals – AFC Mansfield – The Cobras can be very happy heading into their final official pre-season friendly against the Gladiators.

Both sides will be giving their all for both the trophy and for Marcus Beddoe too.
