Clipstone suffered their first home defeat of the 2021/22 season as visitors Rossington Main deservedly left the Lido Ground with all three points despite a Man of the Match performance from Cobras’ ‘keeper Sam Ogden. The visitors took the lead after just seven minutes when a shot from Niall Doran was turned into his own net by Curtis Birchall. Rossington then created a number of other openings but fortunately had not brought their shooting boots with them and their attempts were well away from Ogden’s goal.

The home side struggled initially to keep the ball consistently whilst the visitors looked comfortable in possession albeit struggled to make it count more in terms of goals scored.

The Cobras only created two half chances during the first half. First after skipper Mitch Mullins was brought down just outside the area in the 18th minute, Birchall’s free kick was just wide of the post. Then two minutes before half time Joe Massey did well down the right and his cross found Josh Pickering who could only head over.

HT 0-1

Dave Hoole made two changes at half time with Jason Foster and Alex Mann both making their first appearances of the season and the Cobras enjoyed better quality possession in the second period as a result, however the visitors were still creating chances and Clipstone had Ogden to thank for preventing further goals. After the visitors hit the bar on the hour mark, Ogden kept out a point blank effort from Tyla Bell before pulling off a great double save in the 66th minute.

Rossington doubled their advantage in the 77th minute after Lewis Warwick was dispossessed by Jack Watson as he tried to play the ball out from the back and whilst Ogden blocked Watson’s initial effort, the striker was alert to hold off two defenders and put the ball into the unguarded net.

Kian Johnson was forced into a late save as Clipstone pushed forward in the final ten minutes but the visitors never looked like surrendering their advantage.

Full time 0-2
