Clipstone ended a run of four consecutive defeats with an entertaining three all draw against FC Humber United although in reality it was two points dropped rather than a point gained as the Cobras spurned numerous chances. Despite taking an early lead through a Jason Foster strike, the Cobras went into the half time break level at 1-1 and then retook the lead two minutes after the restart through Jack Warwick’s sixth goal of the season. The hosts then hit back twice to take a 3-2 lead until Will Heather’s 80th minute strike ensured the points were shared.
The game was played at Selby Town’s ground which is FC Humber’s home for the season and the visitors took the field in their new tangerine away kit.
After Dec Sorrell and Jack Warwick had both spurned early chances, the Cobras took a 10th minute lead when Warwick won back possession near the corner flag and found Joe Massey. The latter played the ball back to skipper Jason Foster who fired home a shot from the edge of the box despite close attention from two defenders.
The lead lasted until the 25th minute when the home side were gifted an equaliser in strange circumstances after Sam Ogden accidentally stepped out of his area when collecting the ball. Humber’s Jack Gascoigne then drilled the resulting free kick into the roof of the net.
Clipstone almost retook the lead immediately when Sorrell failed to connect to a Mitch Mullins cross when five yards from goal and Warwick then missed a good chance on the stroke of half time.
Warwick almost immediately made amends when he latched onto a Jordan Wells through ball and rode a challenge before producing a cool finish. The same player should have given the Cobras a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute when a cross from Sorrell found him in the box but this time he delayed his shot and a defender got across to block. Jason Foster then saw a long range effort skim the outside of the post.
The visitors were made to pay on the hour mark when Louis Blackwell grabbed his eighth of the season with a fine finish from inside the area that gave Ogden no chance.
Warwick turned nearly turned provider in the 72nd minute when his neat stepover enabled over left back Jordan Wells to race into the box but he fired over when he had both time and space to find the target.
The home side then took the lead for the first time in the game in the 75th minute when Brandon Burke started a move midway inside his own half and ended it with a shot from distance that found the bottom corner of Ogden’s goal.
Warwick then missed a great chance in the 79th minute when he got his head to a Will Heather cross but glanced wide from six yards. They did draw level a minute later however when substitute Josh Pickering drove forward into the box and his low shot was pushed out by the ‘keeper into the path of Heather who scored with a left footed shot from 10 yards. Both sides went in search of a winner but overall a draw was about the right result.
The Cobras find themselves mid-table in 15th place with seven points from eight games. They now turn their attention to the FA Vase and a tie against Leicestershire St Andrews at the Lido Ground on Saturday 11 September, 3pm.

Clipstone FC face FC Humber United at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium with a 3pm KO. Clipstone are looking to bounce back from their mid-week defeat to Hall Road Rangers and take the 3 points against Humber. FC Humber UTD lost 8-0 to Armthorpe Welfare in mid week and lost 9-2 to Hallam the Saturday before – Humber will be looking for a response to their last 2 heavy defeats. The Cobras must watch out for Louis Blackwell who has scored 8 league goals in 8 games. The prolific striker will look to cause more problems against the Cobras on Saturday.
FC Humber UTD, who currently sit 18th in the league have picked up just the one win this season which was on the opening day against Dronfield Town where they was 7-1 winners. FC Humber UTD’s management and players will be looking for a huge response against the Cobras. Both Szymon Czubik and Louis Blackwell will be a handful for the cobras defence.
Clipstone, who currently sit 16th are looking to bounce back from the 3-2 defeat at Hall Road Rangers which saw Jack Warwick and Joe Massey get on the scoresheet in. Clipstone were the stronger side at half time however Hall Road dominated and took the 3 points home. Cobras manager Dave Hoole will be looking for a positive response against FC Humber UTD and hopefully they return with the 3 points for the Cobras.
Big game for the Cobras!
