Match summary by Jim McIntosh:
A depleted Clipstone side were no match for a strong Rossington Main side as the Cobras left South Yorkshire with nothing to show for their efforts on a cold Tuesday evening. A number of regular players were unavailable due to Covid or work commitments and Rudy Funk had to draft in a number of younger players. Indeed Reece Reeve made his second substitute appearance as early as the 21st minute when Josh Pickering had to come off with an ankle injury and there was also a first appearance for Rhys Walwyn-Alsop as a second half substitute.
Clipstone made the worse possible start when they conceded after 28 seconds when Tyla Bell fired home from close range after some neat build up play by the home side. It was Bell again who then doubled the advantage when his deflected shot went past Jason White’s dive and inside the post.
The young Clipstone side continued to work hard without creating clear cut chances and they suffered a further setback when Dec Sorrell was sent off in the 65th minute after receiving a second caution in the match. Reiss Harrison then completed the scoring with twelve minutes remaining with a great drive from 25 yards that gave White no chance.
After the game, Cobras’ boss Rudy Funk said “It’s been a difficult night but at the same time you’ve got to appreciate that it’s been very difficult to get players to games nowadays with Covid or something other. The lads who played here tonight were young kids and they put themselves about and put a good shift in. One or two did amazingly well.
To be perfectly honest, the sending off of Dec Sorrell didn’t help the cause. Dec is more senior and should have kept his cool. It’s better to be 11 than 10 out there.
You’ve got to give Rossington credit. They knocked the ball about well and took advantage of the extra player.
We are in a development process here and that doesn’t come overnight. It’s not the guys who played tonight or last week. It’s the guys who have left the club for no reason who have put us in this position. That’s the biggest problem that I’ve got right now. Hopefully we can make the step and stay in this division”.
