Kimberley Away

Kimberley M.W 0 - 1 Clipstone
26 Sep 2020 - 15:00

Mitch Mullins scored his first Clipstone goal as the Cobras came away with a 1-0 victory over Kimberley Miners Welfare. This is the first time Clipstone have won their first three fixtures of a season since 2014 – and the first time they have started a EMCFL campaign with three successive victories. However, they will need to be on top form and need to better the 10 straight wins we had back in 2014.

The Cobras were made to work hard against a Kimberley side who themselves had started the season impressively, but Hoole’s team edged the game and got the three points.

Goalkeeper Monty Parkes also earned his first clean sheet in a great defensive performance where Parkes and his back four played brilliantly.

Substitute Mullins’ second-half goal, supplied by Chris Smith’s excellent through ball gave Clipstone the Cobras the lead.

Clipstone manager Dave Hoole said: “I’m really pleased with the result. The first half was steady and we needed to use the second half and capitalise on the wind. Once we got the goal we knew it would be difficult because Kimberley put a lot of pressure on us.

We defended well but we could play better with the ball. It is good to see the spirit in the team in this moment. We have started the season well.

“We have to look only for the momentum, that is good in this moment. In a busy time with another game next Saturday and Tuesday, we have to keep the motivation and ambition. The danger is behind us all the time and we need to stay concentrated for the full 90 minutes.”
